SMP For Hair Transplant Scars

For all scar types

Scalp Micro Pigmentation (SMP) can help conceal scars left after a hair transplant procedure or injury, so that the final appearance blends seamlessly with the surrounding hair.

Hair transplants are typically the most extreme type of hair restoration considered by people facing hair loss. They are considered extreme due to the invasive nature of the surgery and the high cost associated with it.

Hair brings pride and confidence to us. We make daily efforts to keep it in good condition because it is an essential part of our overall appearance. It can be devastating when hair starts to shed in abnormal quantities and you notice a change in your hairline or scalp. Although the causes of hair loss can often be diagnosed by a doctor, its treatments are often limited and not always effective.

There are two common methods in hair transplant: Follicular Unit Hair Transplant (FUT), which involves removing a 6-10 inch strip of scalp where hair growth is abundant and strong, and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE), in which the surgeon will shave the back of the client’s head before beginning to extract donor hair follicles one at a time.

SMP creates the appearance of natural hair follicles by implanting natural black ink into the scalp. The results can last up to three to five years before they need to be touched up. The procedure is relatively pain-free and results in a natural-looking outcome that enhances confidence.

If you prefer a shorter haircut, SMP can help create the appearance of hair follicles at the back of the head in cases where there are surgical scars. SMP offers the appearance of full hair for those with longer hair, so the scar will not be noticeable because its baldness will be covered. The scar tissue can be quite thick and may not react to pigments the same way as a regular scalp. For standard treatments, you can expect three to four sessions lasting from one to six hours. Extra sessions may be necessary for surgical scar cases as we assess how the area has reacted to the treatment.

More than just the scar area will be worked on. To achieve a blended, natural appearance, additional SMP work will be performed in the areas on either side of the scar. To ensure that the injuries are fully healed both internally and externally, the FUT/FUE scar cover-up with SMP can only be performed at least 8 to 12 months after the surgery.
